Gate Turn Off

Variable-speed ac industrial motors, inverters, and traction motors rely on gate turn off (GTO) thyristors. When engaged, the devices block current. Users can switch GTO thyristors on manually, and the devices can be configured to allow current to flow symmetrically (i.e., in both directions) or asymmetrically (i.e., in one direction). Although insulated gate bipolar thyristors (IGBTs) and integrated gate-commutated thyristors (IGCTs) have replaced GTO thyristors in many applications, Littelfuse remains committed to producing and improving GTO thyristors as the devices of choice for high-current circuit control.
