N-channel linear MOSFETs endure substantially higher thermal and electrical stresses than metal-oxide–semiconductor field effect transistors designed for switch mode operations. When on, the devices ensure the steady flow of current through a circuit. Linear operation produces drain-to-source voltages and drain currents high enough to cause regular MOSFETs to fail. Specially engineered linear MOSFETs suppress electro-thermal feedback and perform reliably in their current saturation ranges. Applications for N-channel linear MOSFETs include fan controllers, pulse generators, e-fuses, and current regulators.
