Occupant Detection

In commercial and passenger vehicles, seat occupancy sensors feed information to safety systems by detecting whether a person sat down or an object was placed on a seat. The sensors can also be adapted for industrial uses such as sensing an item on a production or packaging line. Littelfuse produces two types of these position, presence, and occupancy sensors. One employs a reed sensor, operating off simple pressure. The other type employs the Hall effect, relying on the movement of a remotely placed actuator magnet to signal the presence of a person or object.
